Every event we host is designed with intention, from the atmosphere we create to the way each session flows.
Every book is an artifact that contains an author’s story.
Based on a belief in the power of that story, Academic Book Club is a place to meet the authors of today’s most innovative, research-based writing as they discuss the content and the story behind their newest books.

Meet the Founder
Academic Book Club is an independent media project by me, Alison Stratten, a seven-time (entirely non-academic) author, co-host of the UnPodcast, and PhD student at OISE, University of Toronto.
My research sits at the border of academy and community, mapping culture, power and education for social justice. As an emerging scholar, I’m immersed (sometimes drowning…) in scholarship, and fascinated by the world of academic publishing and the experiences of its authors.
I founded ABC in curiosity and care; from the position that conversation and listening deepen understanding, with the hope of bringing academic knowledge into new places, and to support academic authors, whose labours, energies and emotions make the work happen.
