Regulating the Revolution, Democratic Deliberation and Biotechnology

How can we all be part of shaping a more ethical technological future?

On this episode of the ABC Podcast, I speak with Dr. Naomi Scheinerman, author of Regulating the Revolution, Democratic Deliberation and Biotechnology, published by UNC Press,  about biotechnology and democratic deliberation.

The 2012 discovery of CRISPR-Cas-9, a revolutionary gene editing tool, embroiled scientists, ethicists, policymakers, and patient advocates in challenging conversations about the moral, social, and political implications of editing DNA. At the same time, the regulatory and governance environment into which the technology was introduced needed modification to address its moral and safety risks.

Learn how Naomi envisions a more democratic political process geared toward the ethical and responsible regulation of technological innovation - and how we can all be part of shaping a more ethical future.
